President's Report
Greetings all TVSFMA members!
We are ALL well on our way through summer, a very hot summer at that. I hope you and your crew have been very successful in your field/facility management strategy; but most important you are keeping yourself and your team safe in this extreme heat. We (our bodies) all go through the acclimation process of adjusting to extreme temperatures……. cold or hot. Most, if not all, of our professional work is conducted outside in those elements. I want to remind you, even though we have deadlines and marks to meet or exceed, PLEASE keep in mind you and your team’s health. It is natural for your body to want to slow down, and we should listen to its request. Take extra time to pre hydrate before and continue to consume liquids during and after work. Provide your team a paid for lunch, and continuous liquids to show your appreciation for their dedication. The body also needs time to “cool down” in the evening. If possible, take that time to relax with family for friends, perhaps a cool shower, and may I suggest going to bed an hour early to give your body rejuvenation for the following day. Also, lets don’t forget the mental aspect extreme temperature have on the mind. Our emotions can be on edge……. being quick tempered, ill-mannered, and short on conversation, and perhaps wanting to be alone and not bothered. Remember, this is all normal and sometimes we all must give each other a “pass”. Continue to take those extra steps to ensure the well-being of yourself and your team. NOTHING should go unnoticed.
Last week our middle Tennessee meeting at Vanderbilt and the Nashville Sounds was successful. We had several sports turf managers as well as vendors show their commitment to our organization. I want to thank Tyler Morris and his crew with Vanderbilt in hosting the morning session. Thank you also to Kevin Collins with Ocean Organics as well as Dr. Daniel Sandor of Virginia Tech for their presentations. Our afternoon session was held at First Horizon Park, home of the Nashville Sounds. Thanks to Thomas Trotter and his crew for hosting and giving a tour of their facility. Thanks goes also Chris Wellborn with Pro’s Choice on his presentation. Our hosts at Vanderbilt and First Horizon did NOT disappoint. It is truly a blessing to see our profession being performed at the highest level for these facilities. A job well done!
Keep in mind of our upcoming social this Saturday on July 23rd at Toyota Field. The Rocket City Trash Pandas take on the Birmingham Barons. There are two climate-controlled suites reserved with plenty of room and food for you and your family to enjoy. Please go to our website, click on events and register. The cost is $10 per person which includes admission as well as food. This is an excellent time for us to get together and meet family members. If you are a former board officer or member, we would love to see you. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor or member, please join us.
Finally, I want to take a minute to mention the purpose of this organization. TVSFMA is here to serve its members, whether that member is a sports turf manager or a vendor partner. Please reach out to me ([email protected]) or any board member with your thoughts and ideas on how we can better serve you. Let us know what we're good at as well as what needs some work. We're all in this together and through our collective efforts we can grow and serve each other effectively.
