TVSTMA February 2022 Newsletter
President's Report
Good afternoon. This is Byran Farris, your 2022 TVSTMA President reaching out on a beautiful February Day. I hope you’ve had time to get out and look at your facilities and execute on the plans that you may have. Of course, January gave you plenty of time to think about it! Spring sports and outside activities are soon to begin and schedules are about to get filled. I wish everyone a great opening season at your facility; make your community and our state association proud!
I wanted to take this time to give every member a heads up on what is to come in 2022. Your 2022 TVSTMA Board has been busy planning our upcoming year and I am excited to share some of it with you. It has been tradition to have meetings across the state/regions for members to have access to unique facilities, education, pesticide points, and great networking with your colleagues and equipment/product vendors. This year, our plan is to have meetings in regions the following months:
- April/May in West TN
- June/July in Middle TN
- September/October in East TN
- December in the Chattanooga area
Specific times and locations are being finalized and will be released soon by email and listed on our website.
Your board would also like to announce an "Excellence in Sports Turf" award. Each quarter, the board will select an individual in the Tennessee Valley that is providing world class athletic field(s) for their community. We believe the value of your work needs recognition, and we plan to do that through this award. We have so many sports turf managers in our region who have tremendous talents and work with limited budgets and equipment, yet have aesthetically pleasing and most important safe fields and facilities . If you know a sports turf manager that deserves this recognition please nominate them by contacting any board member.
Last but not least, I would like to announce a change to our yearly Field Day and Equipment Demonstration day. Our plan is to hold an event in December to allow vendors to show and perhaps demonstrate products and equipment, to provide continuing education sessions, lunch, a facilities tour, and perhaps a social gathering. The board hopes this date change and format will facilitate larger membership participation within the organization.
If you or your team has any questions, concerns, or needs for from the TVSTMA leadership team, do not hesitate to reach out. Many years ago this organization was created for you, the sports field and facility manager to promote the art of sportsfield management, as well to encourage professional dialogue and development within the industry. This organization will continue to provide support in discovering and sharing new ideas, techniques, products, and also allow the networking process to reach across all category levels of membership. Thank you for your time today and we all look forward to seeing you soon.
What's Happening Now?
As most of you are aware, our host organization recently announced a name change/rebrand. You may read the details of that decision here and view the logo reveal video here.
Even though it is not required by SFMA, TVSTMA Board believes our purpose is best acheived by aligning our chapter with the organization we are affiliated with.
Please vote to approve or disapprove changing the name of our chapter from Tennessee Valley STMA (TVSTMA) to Tennessee Valley SFMA (TVSFMA).
Voting will be open through the month of February. Please contact any board member with any questions.
